The sounds of saxophones, bass lines, and smooth melodies filled the air as the Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest 2025 came to a close, marking a vibrant celebration of music, creativity, and community.
Produced by Explayarte A.C., this year’s edition ran from September 15 to October 5, transforming Playa del Carmen into a meeting point for local, national, and international jazz artists. Over three weeks, the festival brought together concerts, workshops, master classes, and community events that showcased the city’s growing cultural heartbeat.
A City Moved By Jazz
The festival featured an exciting lineup across multiple venues. The Silent Concerts at Casa Sofía Playacar offered intimate performances by Meen Green and Oasis Jazz Collective, creating magical nights under the Caribbean sky.
At the Teatro de la Ciudad, audiences were treated to world-class performances by the Explayarte Big Band directed by Joan Chamorro, the Big Band de Cancún, and international guests like Èlia Bastida from Spain and Karen Souza from Argentina.
Other memorable performances included the Explayarte Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Bernardo Ron and Obed Orozco, as well as the Diego Maroto Quartet, featuring some of Mexico’s top jazz talents: Luri Molina, Pancho Lelo de Larrea, and Juan Ale Sáenz.
Community And Culture Beyond The Stage
The Jazz Fest was more than just concerts — it was a true community celebration.
One of the most joyful moments was the Social Dance Night held at The Warehouse Playa del Carmen on September 26, where New Crazy Company and the dance group Swingcronía turned the night into a lively swing party open to everyone.
Another highlight was the outdoor screening of Suite La Mexicana at Parque La Ceiba, which gathered families, students, and jazz enthusiasts for a cultural night under the stars.
Learning From The Masters
True to its mission of promoting artistic growth, the festival also offered a rich educational program at Explayarte. Musicians and students attended free master classes and workshops led by some respected figures in Mexico’s jazz scene.
In addition, sound engineer Arturo Fernández shared his expertise in a master class on live audio for orchestras at the Teatro de la Ciudad, offering valuable insights for aspiring professionals in music production.
A Cultural Success For Playa del Carmen
Supported by sponsors such as Ibermúsicas, Casa Sofía, Wyndham Garden Hotel, Kia Playacar, and Ammare Hotel Boutique, the Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest 2025 stood out as one of the most anticipated cultural events of the season.
